What is coaching, and how does it differ from mentoring or counselling?
Coaching is a process that focuses on helping individuals clarify goals, identify obstacles, and develop action plans to achieve desired outcomes. Unlike mentoring, which involves a more experienced individual providing guidance based on their own experiences, coaching primarily facilitates self-discovery and skill development in the coachee. Counselling, on the other hand, addresses emotional or psychological issues and often involves therapeutic interventions.
How can coaching help me achieve my goals?
Coaching can help you achieve your goals by providing structured support, accountability, and feedback. A coach can help you gain clarity on your goals, break them down into actionable steps, identify and overcome obstacles, and stay motivated and focused throughout the process. Additionally, coaching often involves skill-building and mindset shifts that empower you to navigate challenges more effectively and sustainably.
What qualifications or credentials should I look for in a coach?
When choosing a coach, it's important to look for someone who is certified by a reputable coaching organization, such as the International Coach Federation (ICF). Additionally, consider a coach's relevant experience, specialization areas, coaching methodologies, and client testimonials. Look for someone who demonstrates empathy, active listening skills, and a collaborative approach to coaching.
What is the typical duration and frequency of coaching sessions?
All sessions take approximately 60 minutes. These sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly, whatever suits your life and the speed at which you can take actions to achieve your goals.
How do I choose the right coach for my needs?
Selecting the right coach for your needs is a crucial decision that can significantly impact your coaching experience and outcomes. One essential factor to consider is the level of rapport and trust you feel with the coach.
Imagine selecting a coach with whom you could easily go out for a coffee—an individual with whom you naturally connect and feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings. This connection forms the foundation of a strong coaching relationship, facilitating open communication and mutual understanding.
When choosing a coach, it's vital to assess not only their qualifications and expertise but also their personality, communication style, and values. Ask yourself: Does this coach listen attentively and empathetically? Do they demonstrate genuine interest in my goals and well-being? Can I envision myself confiding in them and receiving valuable guidance and support?
What happens during a coaching session?
During a life coaching session, the focus is entirely on you and your goals. I will provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and aspirations openly.
At the beginning of the session, we will discuss the topics or areas you want to address. This could include setting goals, exploring challenges, or working through specific issues.
Through thoughtful questioning and active listening, I will help you gain clarity and insight into your goals, values, and motivations. Together, we may explore limiting beliefs, identify obstacles, and uncover hidden strengths and resources.
Based on your insights and aspirations, we will collaboratively set specific, measurable, and achievable goals. You will outline concrete action steps and strategies to move closer to your objectives.
Throughout the coaching process, I will hold you accountable for taking action towards your goals. Progress is regularly reviewed and celebrated, and adjustments to the action plan are made as needed.
Depending on your goals, I may introduce tools and techniques from Coaching, NLP or Psychology to enhance your self-awareness, resilience, and effectiveness.
We will conclude with a summary of key takeaways, commitments and next steps. You will leave the session feeling empowered, motivated, and equipped with a clear plan of action to move forward.
Do you work face- to- face or online? Is there a difference?
I offer both at present. We can meet in my office in Woking (Surrey) or we can have an online session via Google Meet or WhatsApp. There is no difference in the quality between in person or online sessions.
